FAQs

Our hope is that this page will be most helpful to you in answering some of the questions you may have about Greene Community Church.

If you don’t see the answer to a question you may have, please, ask!

What’s the history of Greene Community Church?
Greene Community Church began in 2003 as a Bible study group meeting in homes and then, relatively quickly, as a small Body meeting in the conference room at The Comfort Inn.  Nearly a year later, the Lord provided our current rental location.  Throughout GCC’s history, we have sought to be a God-centered church with a heart for reaching out to our community.

Why don’t you pass the “offering plate” during worship services?  First of all, there’s nothing wrong with “passing” the plate during worship.  It’s just simply not something we have ever done.  (And, we might always begin it in the future.  After all, the giving of our "offering" is an act of worship.)

Those who desire to joyfully worship through the giving of tithes and offerings will find a basket at the back of our sanctuary where tithes and offerings are collected.

How do people dress on Sunday mornings?
At Greene Community Church, our focus is on your heart -- and not  your wardrobe.  You’ll see everything from blue jeans to dresses.  Please, come as you desire.  We only ask that you dress in a modest manner that doesn’t distract from others worshipping of the Lord.

Why do you have so much of a “community” focus?
Community is very important to our Body.  We are a church who loves our community.  As such, we seek to be a blessing to our community, serving however we can--whether providing free hot chocolate at the annual Christmas parade, face-painting at the Sheep & Fiber Festival, or providing free “car photos” at the annual Waynesburg 50s Fest.

We are blessed to serve in a great community!  Our hope is that we love our community in such a way that others are drawn to the extravagant, irresistible love of Christ Jesus.

What’s your view of women as pastors, elders and deacons?  While we value women and count them as a tremendous source of wisdom and leadership within our Body in virtually every area of ministry, the headship roles of pastor, elders and deacons are reserved for Godly men who desire to be servant leaders.  Scripture specifically speaks of parameters for leadership within the Church Body and we seek to reflect those parameters.

Are you charismatic?
While we certainly encourage the joyful freedom of expressive, reverent worship, we are not a “charismatic” church.  If charismatic worship is important to you and your family, there are other churches  in Greene County that you should consider.

Why don’t you have a youth ministry?
This is a very good question!  Because we seek to emphasize the centrality of the home, you will find that instead of separating out our teenage young adults, we instead seek to integrate them within the life of our Body.

Our task is to journey alongside the parents, equipping them in the task of raising their children according to Scripture.  As such, we provide much instruction to parents, believing that the father is the shepherd of his home.

We’re delighted that you will find young adults sitting with their parents, worshipping the Lord, serving in Little Blessings Nursery, greeting at the door, and even assisting in running the sound on Sunday mornings.

There are many churches in our community with active youth ministries.  However, at Greene Community Church, that is not our focus.  Our heart is for the family and equipping families to evangelize and instruct their children according to the ways of the Lord.
