At Greene Community Church, we hope you’ll find that we are a covenant Body of Believers who love the Lord and delight in serving those within our Body and those outside our Body.
As such, you’ll find Greene Community Church very active in the community, whether face-painting at community events and festivals, serving hot chocolate at parades or wielding hammers and nails to work on community construction projects.
We love our community and we desire to see individuals come know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. With this desire, we’re ready to roll-up our sleeves and follow Him in going where He calls us to go within our community.
At Greene Community Church, everyone who is in saving relationship with Christ and who is in active covenant fellowship with our Body, is in ministry leadership. Our desire is for our Body to be full of the active Christians, called to lead and disciple, thus, “making ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
Core Values
As a Body, we hold fast to certain "core values" that serve to shape who we are as a Body of Believers.
As a Body, we hold fast to certain "core values" that serve to shape who we are as a Body of Believers.
The Sufficiency of Scripture
The sufficiency of Scripture references the fact that the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. Therefore, we continue to make every effort to structure our church according to biblical mandates. (Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32; Proverbs 30:6; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 1:1-2; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Revelation 22:19)
A Biblical View of Conversion
Our goal is not that of coercing as many people as possible to "pray a prayer". We desire true conversion. We seek to proclaim and explain the gospel, taking the time to review Scripture, allowing the Word of God to work in the hearts of those He is calling. (Romans 3:23; 5:8; 10:9-14; Ephesians 2:1-10; Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 6:46; 2 Corinthians 13:5, etc) As such, we are cautious with children and seek to never manipulate or rush a child. We believe such actions on our part would be dangerous. (Matt. 18:6; Mark 9:42; Luke 17:2)
A Biblical Worldview
Christianity is not a religion. Instead, it is our entire worldview. We are to think biblically concerning every aspect of life, from holding fast to a literal 6-day creation view of "In the beginning" to issues such as protecting the unborn child and a view of life beginning at conception. We believe we must approach the world and our interactions from a distinctively biblical perspective. (Genesis 1-2; Colosians 1:15-18; John 4:23-24; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 14:15; Ephesians 5:18-20; Philippians 2:9-11; Colossians 3:16; Psalm 139:13-16)
Christ Exalting Worship
While the New Testament has very little to say about worship styles, the totality of Scripture is very clear that we are to engage in Christ-exalting worship through praying, teaching, Scripture reading, singing, giving, honoring and obeying God. Specifically, our belief is that all of worship must be distinctively God-centered and not "man" centered (John 4:23-24; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 14:15; Ephesians 5:18-20; Philippians 2:9-11; Colossians 3:16)
A Biblical Community
The Church is not a building. Instead, it is a Body, or a community of covenanting believers. As such, we are to live in active, loving, continual, watchful, protective fellowship with one another. Mere participation in an occasional worship service does not result in us being a biblical community of believers, bound together in Christ Jesus. What a joy it is! (Matthew 18:15-18; Romans 12:3-18; Acts 2:41-47; 4:32-35; 6:1-7; Hebrews 13:17)
Biblical Manhood & Womanhood
We believe that within Scripture, God has clearly defined the roles of men and the roles of women, both within the home and the church. While these roles are questioned within our culture today, God has not changed. (I Corinthians 16:13-14; I Kings 2:1-3; Proverbs 31, 12:4; Titus 2:3-5; I Tim 5:14) You may see additional details regarding this core value below, within our "organizational structure."
The Blessing of Children
We believe and teach that children are a blessing from the Lord. God has called us to be "fruitful and multiply." We are saddened by our culture's view of children as financial burdens. Instead, we rejoice with those who receive children in abundance and pray with those whose desire is for the blessing of children and the fruit of the womb. (Psalms 127:3-5; 128; Genesis 1:28; Proverbs 17:6; Job 42:12-16)
Family Discipleship
While the church is called to make disciples, it is clear that God has designed the family as the primary discipling agent. Children are entrusted to parents for their spiritual nurture. As a Body, we are committed to coming alongside parents, encouraging them as they teach and admonish their children, bringing them up in the Lord. (Genesis 12:8; Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Psalm 78:5-8; Psalm 113:3; Ephesians 6:1-4; II Tim. 3:14-15)Organizational Structure
Greene Community Church, under the headship of Christ, is led by a ministry team of Godly men who serve as servant leaders in the ministry of elders and deacons. While women are valued and esteemed, we practice the Scriptural precedent of God’s instruction that men lead in the home and in the church.
Our hope is that Godly women will serve as co-laborers, serving alongside their husbands who are in elder and deacon leadership, adding a breadth and depth to our Body that reflects the plan of God.
As Scripture teaches, women are indeed highly-valued. As such, though they do not serve in the direct headship roles of elders and deacons, you’ll find them throughout our Body joyfully serving in every area, adding much to the ministry effectiveness of the Kingdom of God.
